Police: DUI Sussex County Woman, 31, Injured After Hitting Utility Pole, Parking Meters

A Sussex County woman was driving under the influence when she crashed into a utility pole and two parking meters damaging them -- and injuring her head, neck and back, authorities said.

Marisa Izquierdo, 31, was driving a 1995 Toyota Camry westbound in Newton when she hit the pole and the meters in front of 33 Trinity St. just after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

Izquierdo, of Newton, injured her head, neck and back during the crash, which deployed the vehicle’s airbag, authorities said.

She was transported to Newton Medical Center for treatment and later charged with DUI, careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

Izquierdo is scheduled to appear in Newton Municipal Court on Oct. 13.
